Everyone's a Critic
I still maintain a Sunday ritual
where I attend a congregation
of parishioners brought together
for a common purpose - to sit
amongst one another in a silent
community as we are told moralistic,
larger than life stories about the
good and evil dichotomy.
Wine and Eucharist are replaced with
Diet Coke and bags to
tubs of buttered popcorn and instead
of giving to the poor, my donations
are instead sent to the likes of
James Cameron and big name studios
like Paramount or Pixar.
Still, the distance and darkness make me
safe to experience the catharsis of
someone else’s burdens for an hour and a half
or feel both terrified and elated to see
my own reflected on screen for the world to see.
